Staircase refurbishment

The existing staircase in this house was an open rise design with metal balustrade. Great in a 1970’s house, but out of keeping in this period cottage, not to mention quite a hazard for the client’s small children.

The answer was to refurb the staircase in-situ by adding mdf risers, increasing the width of the strings, boxing out the lower section and adding a more ‘in keeping’ timber balustrade, newel post and handrail.
